Sojourn Bicycling & Active Vacations
DuVine is one of the highest quality luxury bike tour operators in the industry. You'll eat at the nicest restaurant in town, sleep in the most picturesque hotels and enjoy the region's top wines, beers or other libations.
Started in the heart of France by a young man with a passion for exquisite wine and amazing travel, the company has expanded to cover some of the world's most iconic cycling destinations and even branched out into a few multisport tours in exotic destinations such as the infamous Galapagos Islands.
While DuVine has historically been known for their cutting edge new tours and routes, there stable of bicycle trips has seen a bit of a stall in recent years. It could be that they're perfecting an already incredible list of destinations, but we at BikeToursReviews.com wonder if this is a signal of other internal issues as other operators have, at the same time, turned out some of the most exciting new tours we've seen in years.
Most of their tours feature a Michelin starred restaurant or two, 5-star accommodations, and wine with every meal. These standard inclusions, along with a bevy of additional perks, are what make DuVine more expensive than the industry average. Travelers looking for a highly private, no-holds-barred travel experience, will need to check out DuVine. They're famous in the industry for designing private cycling trips for the who's who of the world. Nothing is too much for DuVine to handle and they will do almost anything to ensure that their guests have the absolute perfect bike tour they're looking for.
On a DuVine public bike tour, incredibly small group size (14 or less) allows them to gain access to hotels and tastings that bigger groups aren't able to enjoy. You'll experience hole in the wall, hidden gems of each destination without feeling like you're on a tour. Our BTR.com editor's tour was filled with local experiences where the hosts, owners, and wait staff were good friends with our bike tour guides. Undoubtedly, this helped give our tour that extra special touch not available on bigger tours that don't have the same local relationships.
Also, with so few guests per departure, guides are able to customize each trip to suit the interests and desires of every traveler. Sick of tasting Italy's unbelievable Barolo again - the guides would be happy to take you wherever you want to go.
However, such high levels of flexibility can be a deterrent to some travelers who prefer a more structured approach. If you're looking for a strict day-by-day itinerary upon arrival, you may want to check with another operator. Groups may end up at a meal for two or more hours and be late for something later in the day. The guides always let the guests run the show.
But, slow down there hot shot. These are still highly-guided tours with carefully planned routes, so don't go suggesting a new path you heard about on Strava. When it comes to the cycling the guides are all business. DuVine guides live in the areas where they guide and often grew up riding these roads so they're certainly going to show you the best of the best within their region.
In true DuVine style, if you're not enjoying the route, want extra miles, or need the support van to help you up a hill. Just ask. There is nothing they won't do.
